water
first- a prayer/thought for those in the path of ike.
today was a great day for paddling. it was overcast all day and no rain- my favorite paddling weather, ever. direct sunlight on water gives me migraines, and somehow i always manage to paddle with the sun right in my eyes. so today was a blessing. my siblings warned that it would rain, but i knew better. the sun was just taking a break. today was especially nice because there was virtually no one else out there (except a couple active hunters on the maryland side…gunshots from the river, anyone?). there was a moment of real solitude, when i put the kayak in reverse (ie, let myself float backwards facing upriver) just to view *my* riverine world of a moment. heck, an eagle even joined in the moment. it was gorgeous. it’s moments like those where i can think simply and clearly, where the mysteries of human behavior can fall away in front of the more sensible mother of nature, as we refer to it. not that we know anything anyway. :)
